Will an air purifier in my living room stop it from smelling dank?

When I come back after a few hours or wake up in the morning (especially when the window is closed), the living room will smell bad. I assume there is mold growing in the carpet. Would an air purifier stop it from smelling?

You need to clean the source of the problem. If not, even industrial-strength air purifiers won't help.

There could be some water leaking to the carpet. Fix that first.

No, but it will eliminate the bad odor, you can go to Lowe's and rent a carpet washer, and do it your self.

You need to just get rid of the mold. It is very bad for you! My husband works in asbestos and mold abatement, and you should hear his stories of the damage that can come from mold. You need to have it removed! If you're renting, you should find out if the landlord can do something about it. Your health is on the line!

I would say, as I had a similar problem...(1) shampoo your carpet...use one that has deep extraction of any shampoo from the carpet. Put a fan on the carpet to dry..if cool enough, turn on the heat in the house.Next( you may have to replace the carpet if mold has been allowed to grow a long while) (2) change your air/heat furnace filter every 2 months or more is dirty..get one that filters out allergens.(3) I bought an Ionic Breeze...and it works wonderful.. The house smells fresh!

Mold is very bad for your health..do something soon.

Try a dehumidifier if it's damp in the house
