Spot on Liver is Cancer? See Details?

Ok well my dad phoned me last night and told me that my grandpa has a spot on his liver the doctors are saying it is cancer my grandpa is 81 years old so surgery is not an option and he doens't want to do chemo. the doctors aren't saying anything about how long he has to live because they say every person is diffrent. I live 12 hours away from my family so i'm pretty upset not having anyone to talk to about it. My Grandpa just wants to wait it out and I guess eventually he will proably be in the hospital.

What are the chances that he will live for quite a bit longer?

Thanks for the Answers so far, I'm not sure how big the spot is, My dad said that my grandpa went in a while ago and it was small and that he went in last week and it is quite a bit bigger now. My grandpa doens't want to do surgery or anything that will have to have in the hospital because he wants to just live life how he always has.

How big is the spot on the liver? Is this a primary or secondary cancer? What stage is the cancer? There seems to be more here than they are telling you. Because there are treatments for liver cancer including Radiofrequency Ablation in which they insert a wire into the tumor and it will disintegrate. Works well on 'spots' on the liver . . . that are certain sizes. There are also some incredible advances in liver cancer treatment . . so I am uncertain why your grandfather 'wants to wait it out'. It's his choice, of course, and he may know things about his condition that he is not telling you.

I know several people who have had RFA for liver tumors. It is quick and patients generally only spend one night in the hospital. They're uncomfortable for a few days after but it is less invasive than surgery.

There is also a chemoperfusion done of the liver that has good results.

Anyway, it is your grandfathers decision to pursue treatment or not as long as he is aware of all his options. Be strong.

No one can answer that question, it's difficult to say, almost impossible. I wish I had an answer for you but I don't. I do have advice for you though, go to see your grandfather, tell him you love him and that you will be there for him. Mean it, do it. Help him to be positive. Even though you know the truth, forget about it. Live each and every day as if there is no tomorrow. That's the key.
