Is Citalopram known to cause liver problems?

I got really sick in February with digestive problems and pains in my side. I've had tons of tests run on me (gall bladder scan and ultrasound, CT scans, sonograms, tons of blood work, liver biopsy, etc.) I've had elevated liver enzymes for the past 8 or 9 months. My doctor thinks that this is due to a recent mono infection because of an elevated antibody in my blood. Would mono affect the liver for such a long time? I test negative on the spot test. Also, I have been on Lexapro for a while and then my insurance switched me to Citalopram, and I noticed that my side has started hurting again. Is it possible that Citalopram is harming my liver? The results of my liver biopsy showed that my liver was not damaged, but I'm concerned that if the inflammation persists that it will get that way. My ALT and ALP enzyme levels are around 90-100. Is this high enough to cause damage in a short time? I ask my doctors these questions, but they answer everything vaguely.

I have been on Citalopram for over a year. It has not helped, but, neither has it caused me any problems with the liver or anything else. But, I was switched to Effexor this week. Hope it works.

Hello
I was wondering exactly about your question today; I am a physician and I visited this link and found it helpful; But, remember!...Not all or some of the side effects inevitably occurs in everybody. There are many differences among people.
