Cirrohsis,Liver disease from alcohol...?

What are the symptoms of an alcoholic who has Cirrosis? (sp?) Liver disease from alcoholism?

symptoms:

nausea, fatigue, anorexia, weight loss, ascities( there is accumulation of water in your abdominal wall), varicosties(inflammation of small viens especially in your lower extremeties), and spider angioma

You may have no symptoms at all to begin with. The liver
is a very quiet organ that doesn't show anything regarding
symptoms until it is no longer able to do the functions it
once did to keep the body healthy. Many people are
walking around with liver problems and even hepatitis and
the starting of cirrhosis and not even know it.

When the symptoms start to appear, usually the first
sign is tiredness, then nausea, and a possible fever.
You may notice that the whites of the eyes, skin, and
mucous membrances start to take on a yellow appearance,
known as Jaundice. It is best to view this in outdoor
natural lighting as indoor lighting can mask it.
As the disease progresses, you may see fluid building up in the legs and feet known as edema because of sodium
building up in the blood. Then because the liver isn't producing a protein well enough, known as Albumin, you may see fluid start to build up in the abdominal area.
This is known as "Ascites". You may see the
muscles start to waste away because the body is using
other proteins up now. Their mind will not be clear
cause of the toxins building up in the blood and passing
the blood brain barrier, just like the alcohol did, and
the patient will become easily confused and unable to
think clearly enough, that other have to do things for them.
Because the blood cannot flow through the liver well
anymore, it will back up into vessels that isn't used to
handling this and they may balloon out and break open
and cause internal bleeding in areas like the esophagus,
rectum, and belly button area. If the patient coughs up
anything that looks like blood, light red or darker red or
even something that looks like a coffee ground appearance,
they should be taken to the emergency room right away.
The palms of the hands and the soles of the feet may appear
red also. They may also develop spider like small red veins
on their chest and neck area, known as spider angiomas.
They may have difficulty breathing and eatting because
of the pressure on the fluid build up mentioned above.

Most cirrhosis patient become mal nourished and
need vitamin and mineral replacement. The doctor
can suggest what supplement nourishment, vitamins
and mineral to use based on their personal blood work.

Cirrhosis is caused by many different things, but alcohol
consumption is number one. The cells of the liver usually
start out with inflammation. This can be treated and
if the patient stops drinking, the liver can heal. Once
it progresses to where the cells of the liver die, the
doctors can only try to slow the death of the healthy cells
down...this isn't always possible, since the scar tissue
that develops from these dead cells block the other
cells from nourishment and oxygen.
