I have been overweight since I was childhood. How long would it be before I would get fatty liver disease? |
To be more exact, how at risk am I to develop non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. I was diagnosed as obese at age 15 and my weight has only gone up since then. At time of diagnosis, I weighed roughly 245 and now I weigh 315. I am 21 now. No, I'm not aiming for this disease. I would just like to know how at risk I am for developing this. Are you a first year med student? what? you aiming for it? lose some weight. you sound as though you are aiming for the goal... Try to reduce your weight, exercise, healthy eating and positive thinking. Then the stress of worrying about a fatty liver will be just a memory. Fatty liver is probably the least of your worries. This is a question you should pose to your physician. Research suggest that your triglyceride level would be most indicative, followed by your body mass index (BMI), alanine transaminase levels, (ALT), gamma-glutamyl-transferase (GGT), and waist circumference. All of these factors (except waist circumference) require blood tests. |
