Is the liver disease, NASH fatal?

NASH is caused from fatty liver. There are 4 stages. It can cause liver failure, cancer, and other problems. It was found through my blood test. The enzymes were high.

NASH is not caused from fatty liver. NASH is a condition of fatty liver. It stands for nonalcoholic steatohepatitis.

A lot of people have NASH and live their lives without even knowing they have it.

Is it fatal in your case? This is really a question you should be asking your doctor. Can it be fatal? Yes, it can.

Bottom line: talk to your physician about your concerns. Take care of your health. Don't do recreational drugs. Keep alcohol consumption down to a minimum. Eat properly, get sufficient exercise, drink water; basically take care of yourself.

I have had NASH for the past 45 years with no symptoms. The condition was found on an MRI, and they were looking for something else.

Take care of your body. Best of luck with your health.

If you are really worried, talk to your doctor asap. There's a lot to be said for peace of mind.

Good luck hon.

I'm sorry to hear about your diagnosis.
NASH is a difficult disease, but it's chronic, not terminal.

You're in for a couple of difficult months, but eventually you and your hepatologist will find a medication and diet regimen that works. Your NASH can be controlled, your enzymes will go down.

But this is something you'll have to be aware of forever. Your enzymes will fluctuate. You'll need frequent labs and check-ups. Your meds will be adjusted periodically. Eventually you may need a liver transplant.

But you will adapt. And you may even find joy in some of the changes in direction your life has taken.

Best wishes.
