Liver Function Test? |
I am in my early thirties and have drank beer pretty much since I was 21. Sometimes alot... sometimes not, but usually a few beers or glass of wine everyday. In the last year I returned to a job with computers and have gained 45+ pounds. Just took a physical and the doctor pointed out some elevated levels of AST (49) and ALT (99). In my research it seems that a ratio of 2:1 AST to ALT indicates alcoholic liver disease. My results are the other way around? does this indicate a fatty liver? Something else? I have cut out the booze and I am losing the weight. My doctor wants a follow up test in 3 months, my question is what does it mean to haver higher ALT levels in ratio to AST levels? A fatty liver is only one of the reasons the liver may have problems...there are many more causes. Fatty liver can become a problem when the fat is in the liver cells or between the liver cells. ...
