Can someone live with Cirrhosis of the liver and Hepatitis C?

If someone has a bad liver and the doctors are saying that there is nothing else they can do and want to put that person in a hospis because they only have a short time because they're body is shutting down, could the liver just start to work again on it's own?can you get a liver transplant if your body is not doing good?

While I would never say never, it would literally take a miracle for that to happen.

It would be a miracle if they survived with that condition. The liver is a very important organ, and if it can't pass blood, then that person won't make it too long without receiving a transplant.

My Uncle Jim had cirrhosis of the liver. He stopped drinking, ate healthy, tried to live healthy, and he lived for years more...he extended his life. The liver couldn't repair, but it functioned enough to keep him going for anothre bunch of years.

Your liver will not start to work again. You should discuss a transplant with your doctor.

*sigh* this is a difficult answer because i myself have hepatitis B
and no i didint need a liver transplant but it you have cirrhosis and i don't think so either the effect of hepatitis is that u cannot consume a lot of cholesterol.

No, when theres liver cirrhosis, that's it! hepatitis c just complicates the situation. There are specific guidelines for liver transplant and they won't do it if it was self induced like alcoholism. so i am sorry to say that hospice is a good choice.

the answer is yes. The person needs to take 6000mg of Efamol EPO and 2000mg of Carlsons Cod liver oil (GLA and EPA DHA---essential fatty acid derivatives plus a fructose compounded multi-vit/mineral and flavanoids to protect against lipid oxidation. This will kill the Hep C and the liver will regenerate absolutely. This is being done and is called dietary manipulation of eicosanoids. SINCERELY EFAPAUL

That patient should be seeing a Hepatologist, if he is not
already. Many patients with hepatitis C and cirrhosis of
the liver receive transplants. There are a number of
factors to consider, though. One of them is if the doctors
feel the patient will make it through the long hours of
surgery....this makes them look at how many other things
the patient has wrong with them. If they have a strong
heart and have been eatting well and have not taken
any alcohol in the last six months...they may say they could
be considered for transplantation. The patient has to
be evaluated to be placed on the transplant list. This
means they go through a series of tests and will see
different doctors. Once they are placed on the list,
then the patient is called for a transplant depending on
how long they can survive without one. I know a lady
who just got on the list and received a transplant the
next day.

If the doctors are saying that there isn't anything they can
do, it may mean they are too far gone...the fact that
you said they want him placed on hospice may mean he
is not expected to live more than six months. However,
if he isn't with a hepatologist...and it is one of the other
doctors saying this....I would question it.

Hope this is of some help to you.
