My mother waws diagnosed with liver damage, probably cirrhosis. She is jaundice, and has edema(retaining water) |
She fell earlier because her legs are some what numb, and now she has a cut that is leaking a clear fluid, it appears to be water, but I am not sure. Can this be water or fluid draining from the edema? Is this normal, or ok? Any answers are help since it is late and we can't reach a doctor. THANKS! :) The cut is on her calf, and it isn't leaking really bad. It's pretty normal for people with liver damage to have edema. If the cut is in her legs, treating it can probably wait until tomorrow. I would just clean it and bandage it like any other cut, and keep an eye on it. Have her keep her legs elevated. The fluid is likely to be serous drainage from the edema, and isn't likely to be anything problematic. The edema is present because the liver is not making enough albumin, a protein compound that helps to pull fluid from the tissues back into the bloodstream where it belongs. You can't fix that part of it. It could be fluid from the edema if she didn't cut any blood vessels. I would definitely see a doctor as soon as possible though. How bad is it leaking? And where is the cut? I would call the ER and ask a nurse or doctor on this one to be safe. First thing to do is call 911 to assist you. This will cause a rapid fall in blood pressure because she is loosing /leaking fluid. She might become disoriented with difficulty of breathing. |
