Can liver cancer be detected by using an ultrasound?

i had an ultrasound to check for gall bladder problem, turned out it was fine and the chest x-ray were fine too.

So i was just wondering if it would be liver cancer, would it haved shown in the ultrasound?

When i looked up the signs of liver cancer i only have 5 of 10 of the signs... or is the enough to have it?

thank you for your answers,, i am a mother of two young ones...... i am just trying to eaze my mind....

Liver cancer or any liver tumor can be
detected with ultrasound...here are links to
prove this:

You don't state what your symptoms are:
A problem with the liver can be caused by
a number of different things: drinking alcohol,
hereditary conditions, have an obstruction of
the bile flowing from the liver to the intestines,
being around toxic chemicals, taking drugs
that are toxic to the liver, too much iron or
copper, metabolism problems, hepatitis caused
by a virus. Damage to the liver can be
caused by drinking alcohol and taking tylenol
together.

Usually with liver disease, it starts out with the liver having inflammation in it and this can be helped with medication so that the liver heals. However, if the inflammation continues, it can lead to the death of the liver cells known as
cirrhosis. This cannot be healed and can
progress till a person will need a liver
transplant.

I wish you would of posted your signs...but,
I think that you should see a gastroenterologist
(deals with all the digestive system)
or a hepatologist ( a specialist in liver disease
and study of the liver) if you have any signs of
a liver damage or are concerned you have
cancer.
Here is a article about cirrhosis and it signs
and causes:
http://digestive.niddk.nih.gov/ddiseases...
This might help you compare this to the
signs you said you had for cancer.

Not all tests are 100% accurate and it depends
on who see the films and how much knowledge
they have in reading them.

They can do a simple blood test and see how
your liver is functioning and the enzymes:
The tests they take for this are:
Albumin, Bilirubin, Alka Phosphatase,
Alt, Ast, INR. To look up what these tests
mean and what the result mean: here is a link
http://www.labtestsonline.org/

I hope this is of some help to you. This may
not be cancer, it may be something else or
it may be your liver has inflammation.
I hope you do find out what it is and can
be treated for it. Best Wishes

well yeah silly you can get cancer from that if youre having alot of problems with youre body then you shouldnt even use it anymore.

Hepatocellular carcinoma (hepatoma) usually occurs in patients with cirrhosis and is common in areas where infection with hepatitis B and C viruses is prevalent. Symptoms and signs usually are nonspecific. Diagnosis is based on 伪鈥慺etoprotein (AFP) levels, imaging tests, and sometimes liver biopsy. Screening with periodic AFP measurement and ultrasound is sometimes recommended for high-risk patients. Prognosis is grim, but small localized tumors can sometimes be cured by surgical resection or liver transplantation.
Signs and tests for Hepatocellular carcinoma.
* Physical examination shows an enlarged, tender liver.
* A liver biopsy shows hepatocellular carcinoma.
* Serum alpha fetoprotein may be elevated.
* There may be a mass shown on abdominal CT scan.
* A liver scan may indicate an abnormality.
* Liver enzymes (liver function tests) are elevated.
Please see the web pages for more details on Hepatocellular carcinoma.
