Ankle ligament injury wont heal!? |
I sprained my ankle 4 months ago and it was a very serious sprain, one tt kept me out from walkin for quite a few weeks. However, though I've seen the doctor and he says its ok and the injured area is no longer swollen, i can't seem to be able use that ankle properly as it hurts whenever i try to rotate it. When i press the lateral part of the ankle, its very painful. What should i do? Help! Sprains take longer to heal Then a broken bone. it's not surprising that this is taking you a long time. I recommend you see a chiropractor for therapy. They are very good at working on soft tissue injuries. I've enclosed a link where you can find a doctor of chiropractic that does very gentle therapy. it sounds as though you didn't look after it during a very vital stage otherwise it would be fine. to finally get rid of the pain and mend the ligament tissue you shouldn't drink any alcohol and ice the area, do not do anything that could risk re-injuring it while you ice it up. place ice on for 20 mins, ice off for 20 mins, ice on for 20 mins etc. even light runnning will continue to damage the tissue until you completely repair it. so unless completely necessary you should do nothing else but walk Sprains take a lot longer to heal than breaks. When you sprain your ankle you stretch and tear the ligaments supporting it. These ligaments don't return to their original state but become more like a rubber band. Your ankle is still tender bc new tissue is still being formed. It takes at least 4-6 months to start feeling normal. I am not sure if you had any physical therapy but that is a good option to help make the muscle that support your ankle stronger. The chiro will do nothing for the sprain...go with the physical therapy. You need to work on motion, strength, and balance and ONLY a physical therapist can help you with that. You need to get a second opinion based on you are not better and you should be. as an old b-ball player been there many times.best is rest go to physical therpist you have had repeat xrays? If not do thats the thin bone to lat side of ankle(fibula) If this persist go see a sports medicine specialist they can help. Good luck |
