What causes the pain in an Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) Injury? |
Because the ACL is a ligament and is a dense fibrous tissue, and has little blood flow and has no nerve endings, what makes this injury hurt so much? It usually gets ripped out or torn out of its attachment, then you get swelling..and the knee is a closed space meaning theres no place for it to go,,so you get pain. also your knee will not align properly so you get pain from that as well I think it is because the ligament is torn away from the bone and can get pinched between the thigh and lower leg bones. Plus it is might be interfering with all of the other structures of the knee. Of course the amount of stress required to tear the ACL in the first place would be enough to cause severe pain. |
