I am suffering from a fresh ligament injury. is it advisable for me to take protein food supplements?

i injured my left knee ligament but i would like to continue working out in the gym. i feel up to it too. i can omit out exercises where my knee is strained. but i also want to take a GNC protein supplement along with a GNC 1850 calorie weight gainer. is it ok? or will it be harmful for my ligament's healing? please advise

If you still have an appetite and are eating normally, the protein and calorie suppliments are probably not necessary. If you would like to include some additional protein to your diet I would suggest you try to do so with food. Food contains nutrients that pills do not and most nutrients are absorbed better in food form. Also, while changing your diet you are less likely to gain excessive weight in the form of fat storage due to the combination of reduced activity from the injury and the addition of a protien suppliment and 1850 calories that you probably don't need. My advise is to replace the trip to GNC with a trip to the grocery store. Eating a balanced diet with a slight increase in protien will insure that you don't have any nutrient deficiencies that could slow recovery. I really don't think it's a great idea to add the extra 1850 calories to your current diet. The weight gain with a knee injury is bad news. Excessive weight can stress the joint and slow healing and recovery.

It would be beneficial. So would, balanced meals, glutamine, creatine, omega 3-6-9's, vitamins, ice, and rest. Keep your legs strong while you heal. Don't hurt your knee again while you are healing....injury + injury = surgery. There are many leg exercises you can do with a ligament injury and there are many you can't do.
