What is the best exercise to do after an anterior cruciate ligament injury?

What is the best exercise to do after an anterior cruciate ligament injury?

It very much depends upon what extent of injury you have. If the ligament is partially torn, then you should rest up for a period of time before performing exercises which focus on strengthening the muscles around the knee.

If you have torn it completely, then other than resting until the pain subsides, resting will not allow the ligament to repair itself. Simply do a lot on non impact exercises to strengthen the muscles around the knee such as swimming and cycling as the cycling really pushes the muscles down one side whilst the swimming does the others.

Unfortunately if its completely torn then the only option to repair it is surgery, however this should be a last resort. Many people can live normal lives if they keep the muscle mass up around the knee.

Another thing, try to keep weight off it. If your heavy, then try to lose weight as this will extend the life of the knee. Also you'll find that you naturally stand with the weight of your body on the other leg.

Jog about 20 miles a day to begin

You need physiotherapy after an ALC injury. Or you'll tear it again. This is not a DIY.
