What is the best way to heal a popped ligament, due to a dislocated/fractured ankle?

I was playing basketball a couple months ago, late Feb to be exact. Came down wrong on my ankle and dislocated it. Between the time it was dislocated and relocated (by myself), it both popped a ligament in my foot and fractured my ankle. While I realize these things take massive amounts of time to heal, I still cannot run.. or even jog for that matter on my ankle. I was wondering what are the best ways to rehabilitate yourself after an injury such as this.

First thing...Go do a doctor! It sounds like you didn't,and that was a very bad move because getting proper treatment will speed recovery time. You really need to rest your ankle now, because that is the best way to give your ligaments a chance to heal.A doctor will probably put you in a walking boot,or some sort of lace up brace to give your ligaments support for walking around, and probably say no strenuous exercise for at least 3 weeks. They can also prescribe physical therapy, and that will give you the best chance at rehabilitation.

You really need to see a doctor if you suspect a fracture. Weight bearing on a fracture can cause more damage. An xray can tell you whether it is fractured or not. You should stay off it for awhile, applying ice and heat alternating for 10 minutes on and 10 minutes off. However you said this happened a couple of months ago. It can take between 6-8 weeks for a fracture to heel and much much longer for soft tissue to heal. Give yourself plenty of time. Don't over do it. Gentle stretching is ok as long as your doctor oks it. Gentle massage to increase circulation to the area should help as well. You may want to see a physical therapist and ask if there area some specific exercises you can do..My guess is they will tell you to start out with a stretchy band to create a small amount of resistance to regain the strength in your leg/ankle.
