Can get council flat,cos it seems like i will loose my job,cos im gonna have both knee operation..?


I have been living and working in London for 7yrs...Ive never been unemployed!!! im 28 now...I got a bad news last week from my doctor that i need both knee operation as i had a seroius left knee inury 10 yrs ago and another right knee injury 3 mnth ago.
The ligament is completly torn and the catalige is broken off in both knee...anyway...i need an operation in both knee in March..
I just wonder can i apply for a temporary flat til i recover y and physio therapy which is gonna take 5-9 mnth..its sooooooooo sad,cos Im nanny and i truly love my job,but it seems like im gonna loose my job,cos of my operation...

So as such you will be 'disabled' until you have the surgery. If I remember correctly, providing you have paid PAYE and NI you will be entitled to claim Disability, or Incapacity Benefits and they should pay or contribute to the rent of the flat you are now residing in. However IF you are not paying PAYE or NI, then you know you are in trouble. Good Luck

It all depends on the policy of the local council where you are looking to get a flat. The government has left such housing decisions to local councils. Usually local councils give such housing priorities to people who are homeless or have 20 children with not enough room in their current home due to their unwillingness to stop breeding!

I do hope you can get a temporary flat, but it just depends on local council bureaucracy and waiting lists in your area.

Ask your local council housing office, they should be sympathetic. Also try to get a letter from your consultant to back up your request. I hope it all goes well for you.
