Shoulder Injury, What's Wrong?

On July 23rd I fell off a 5 ft retaining wall and injured my shoulder/arm. I was knocked out so I don't remember how I landed. I had it x-rayed and my doc told me he thought I had a slight crack by the ball in my shoulder and that it'd take 2 weeks to heal. Almost 2 months later I can't sleep due to the pain, can only reach the small of my back and no higher when I reach behind my back, have dull pain constantly, and have shooting pain throughout my arm from elbow to shoulder every time I jerk my arm or move it too fast. I am an amateur athlete and pride myself in my frolfing, football throwing, and baseball throwing ability and I have completely lost the zip my arm had. Is this an issue that my doctor missed, like a torn ligament? Or is it just an injury that physical therapy should fix?

This is common with a fracture of the greater tuberosity (a little bump on the top of the "ball"). This little bump is the attachement site for the rotator cuff. Your injury could be consistent with a detachment of the rotator cuff, or you simply could have injured the rotator cuff tendon itself.

An MRI could confirm or exclude this...but either way, it sounds like physical therapy would be in order unless there is a large/massive tear. Small tears could take up to a year to become pain-free.
