Lung cancer on life support 6 months?

how will my friends dad die, as they will not switch off the machine? Could he die at any given moment while on life support? Will it be slow or quick will their be warning signs like organ failure?
Or will he remain on life support forever.. he is about 60

how long will he last like this..?
his family are realy suffering through this ordeal..

If your friends dad has lung cancer and is on life support, that is cruel. I dont know what some people think. He is already gone, but his family cannot accept it. To keep someone alive with a malignancy is just very selfish and no one is thinking about him.
Of course, I do not know the whole situation.
No one last on life support forever. He will eventually die from sepsis possibly from a decubitus ulcer, pneumonia, a urinary tract infection or some other bacteria and it will be over, after he suffers on and on and on.

im really sorry. x i think generally, organ failure will be the ending. when his vital organs have failed, they will probably turn off the machine.

Hopefully, what is known as "the old man's friend", he will develop pneumonia and go into a coma.

I'm sry to hear about that.
i had a family member that died
recently.he had like lung cancer
and throat cancer and alot of
other stuff.but his organs started
failing and eventually there was
nothing the doctor could do for
him.but he wasn't on life support
he had an oxygen tank.

Is the life support for his lungs if so it will be determined by the function of the brain. Once the brain fails which it may already be dead the brain sensors. All it takes is one breath per unit on a life support. You should ask. It being 6 months they're hoping for a miracle. Many have came out of life supports. I would pray. Give it to God. God works miracles. If a person isn't declared brain dead than they have a chance of living. They may have to wear an oxygen mask for the rest of their lives. Just so many good responses of the probability but no one can answer this one in a fair manner except God.

If it is a terminal disease that you can ask to be placed into hospice. Their MAIN goal is to keep you pain free not try to find any means necessary to make you live in agony any longer than you have too.
They treat their patients well but they can just up the morphine to reduce pain eventually the lungs will surcumb to phenmonia or his weakened body will just pass.

I am soo sorry for you, your friend and their family.
Good luck
