Complications when on life support due to severe blood loss?

brought on by cirrosis of the liver, alcohol abuse

Severe blood loss can cause a person to go into shock. When that occurs, the vital organs may not get as much oxygen as they need because the blood flow is diminished. That can lead to kidney failure, stroke, and other problems. It can also cause brain damage.

If a patient needs many transfusions, that can lead to 'soggy lungs', which makes it extremely difficult to get off life support. Liver failure due to cirrhosis can also lead to very high levels of toxins in the blood, which will affect the neurological status.

Also, many patients who abuse alcohol will be malnourished and have very low levels of B vitamins. That causes neurological problems, nerve damage, stroke, confusion, etc..

It doesn't sound like a very good situation, I'm sorry to say.

look up hypovoleamic shock

Hospital acquired infections.....
This sounds like a dire situation.
