Can someone get off of Life Support after 4days & be breathing on their own?

I feel that someone is lying to me & I need to know the answer to this question before I bust their bubble.

You can get off life support as soon as your organs start functioning by themselves. Theres no time frame on it. It could happen almost immediately or never in which life support is swiched off.

It is definately possible to start breating on your own after 4 days.

yes

if somebody got off of life support then there's no way for them to be living after that

Yes they can.

yes

Yup - it's called Jesus.

mmm it's possible!

Absolutely, the sooner we're off life support the better.

The body has to do it for itself. The more we rely on a machine the quicker we lose the ability to sustain our own self.

Yes. The illness was diagnosed and treated with the patient responding well to the treatment.

It depends on the situation of whom ever is on life support. My grandpa was on it and they messed his life up and did not take care of him .Practically let him die.

Yes. Absolutely.

yes they can depends on the situation. but they really can.

yea its possible. life support helps you but your body can heal itself and start working again on its own.

i dont know, i think when someone is on a life sepport that means they cant breath for there selfs

Absolutely, a friend of mine came off of life support this morning and was talking this afternoon.

Yes, it can happen if they recover some.

Not everyone on life support has no chance of coming off. If their body is healing up and they have the normal functionality of organs then they can be taken off life support and still live.

Yeah of course! It's not impossible, some people's bodies heal much faster than others.

Yes they can. A relative of mine was in a coma. He was on life support. After having been in a coma for over a week. He came out of it little by little. I was the first person to see him move. The next day someone else saw him. That went on after a week he woke up. Once awake and able to breath on his own. They took him off of the life support. It took a while for him to be himself. But yes it can happen.

Yes, some can last as long as 60 years in a coma, then come out alive without brain damage!!
The only reason these people will ever be taken off life support is either due to lack of finances or lack of space for other life support patients. Otherwise, keep that individual on life support for as long as you or the hospital can afford it!!!

The answer to your question is YES. The patient needs to be weened off of the breathing tube. What the nurses do is lower the amount of oxygen the patient is getting and the patient then starts to work breathing on their own so for practical purposes it is possible. It really is all according to the patient and the reason they were on life support to begin with. If someone is messing with you and telling you that this person has been on life support to trick you, that is not a good thing and I must say, nothing to mess with. If in fact you are being lied to regarding this, that person will have some bad KARMA coming their way. My little brother was in a coma for the month of August last year and he was on life support but everyday they would lower the oxygen and he would started breathing on his own. He was put into a medical coma to rest his heart and lungs and give them a chance to heal. I would say the 3rd week into the coma the Dr's wanted to do a trach (a hole in his throat) and I agreed. My little brother seemed much more comfortable after the trach was finished and he started to "come around" faster with the trach. Sorry to say that my little brother passed this past December (he was 55). So......you be the judge of what your heart says about this situation. Good Luck and Blessings !!!

yes they can

Absolutely!! My son was after about 6 days....letting his body rest so it can heal. Praying for you.

Life support can consist of one or more of the following: feeding tubes, intravenous drips, total parenteral nutrition, mechanical respiration, heart/lung bypass, urinary catheterization and dialysis. So anyone of these could of been.
Depending on what life support they were given, it could be true.
