Can you refuse removal of life support when a person is brain dead? |
Can you refuse removal of life support when a person is brain dead? there is no use keeping someone on life support when the persons brain is dead the brain control the rest of the body once the brain is dead the body's useless n basically dead!!!! im not sure but i think so The only time you cant refuse the removal of life support is when the person who is brain dead signed a contract stating that they never want to have machines live for them. other wise theres only little things that you dont have control over. If the person has a living will that states they do not want to be kept alive by machines, then the hospital must go by that. If not, if you are their spouse or have power of attorney, you get to make the call. It can be fought by others. However, would you really want to do that to someone that is really no longer there? To me, it is just prolonging the inevitable. Yes. It's your right to do so because you are either the direct relative of the patient, but frankly doctors will explain you that once the patient is brain dead, its just saying the patient is already dead or as close to it,with only the machine continuing their life. the person's power of attorney can do that. also if the person states in their will or to a doctor that they wish to be DNR (do not resuscitate). I work in a hospital and a lot of patients request that. You can, but it is only a matter of time before the heart stops. A huge catecholamine release happens when brain death occurs and it affects the heart negatively. The official time of death on the death certificate is going to be the time they physician offically pronounced the patient brain dead, not when the heart stops. A great option for a brain dead patient is to consider organ donation, it is a life saving gift. Depends on what the person's will says and who is now the person's care taker. Such as there parent, wife or husband, and what she really put in her will. If the will says remove life support if I have been unconscious for so long than you can't stop it. It is the persons choice! |
