Lice........?

Hi there, I lived with my dad, and his wife (my step-mom) and 3 kids since june, i got infected with lice in september i jusy moved in my own place AND I HAVE BEEN FIGHTING it since then... i was pregnant so i couldnt use lice shampoo's i had my baby in december and i still have them after about 6 treatments...

any ideas

First of all make sure you are using the treatments on everybody in the house. Make sure when treating the home such as the couch, carpet, mattress, treat the cars as well. I am asuming you have small children if you dont want to use the chemical lice shampoo, buy the Robi comb and use it as directed. If you make sure to hold it at a 45 degree angle and dont press it straight into the childrens head it does not tingle. Spray the car and put the stuffed animals and extra pillows in a trashbag and out of the house. I highlighted my blonde childs hair to repel the lice this will not kill the lice and eggs, but makes it harder for the lice to attach eggs to the hair. Good Luck!!!

Try gasoline my next door nebiour used it when she was a kid she hasn't got it since

DO NOT USE GASOLINE!!!!

We battled lice at our house and we tried all the shampoos and stuff. To no avail. The ONLY thing that worked was the little nit comb. It works best if you have someone else do it, but comb through your hair thoroughly EVERY night. All the shampoos do is kill the live bugs anyway- not the eggs. SO you will most likely end up re-infested. My family of 4 all got infested and we battled with the shampoos for weeks and spent a ton of $$- Waste.

The comb got rid of it all in a week. Just do it a section at a time, rinsing it in a cup of water after each section. It is some work- but it will save you a lot of time in the long run.

Vacuum ALOT and wash your sheets daily.

Good luck!

The best thing that I have heard to do is to saturate your hair with Listerine (put in spray bottle and drench hair). Then, saran wrap your head. Leave it on for as long as you can- 4 hours is optimal. If you can sleep with it, that is great, too.

The alcohol in the Listerine kills them (dries them up), and, they need to "breathe" every 4 hours (at the longest), so, if this is on them, it will also suffocate them. When you take off the saran wrap, you will see dead lice bodies. THen, you can comb through your hair and there will be tons of lice and nits.

Next, you need to get rid for the eggs. Spray vinegar on your hair. Straight vinegar. The eggs are stuck to your hair by glue-like substance. The vinegar eats through the "glue". Let this dry on your hair. You won't be able to tell it is there, so, you can style as normal.

Next time you shower and wash out your hair, they will be gone. Poof! Gone!

I would keep on spraying the vinegar for awhile (once it dries, the smell is gone). That way even if one were to get on you at your parents home, it can't lay eggs.

Also, if you are going to comb them out, you need to use the metal combs. The ones in the lice packets are not good. To prevent them in the future, you can braid your hair. Also, mousse and hairspray can prevent them from clinging to your hair. Tea tree oil actually repels them. You can buy the essential oil and add it to your shampoo and conditioner.

Also, each morning, I would throw your pillow in the dryer. Heat will kill the eggs. If you don't have a dryer, heat it up with a blow dryer.

This will work better than anything over the counter and it is safe.

*Also, you can dye your hair. The chemicals actually build up the hair shaft with the new color, and, block in any eggs so that they can't open and hatch. There are clear dying kits that just make your hair super-shiny. I know of parents that have used them on their children. ALso, lots of mousse, hairspray, etc will make it so that they can't lie their eggs on the hair strand, if they WERE able to, it would be on the spray and come off as soon as you was your hair.

Unfortunately, living alone is going to make beating lice very difficult. Can your step mom help you maybe? B/c you're going to need the help.

You can use any shampoo or mayo or oil remedy you want to try to kill live lice, but they still won't kill the eggs which will eventually hatch and become live lice. The cycle will repeat itself over and over again and you'll remain infected.

I wish there were some magic remedy, but the ONLY way to get rid of lice is to get every single tiny little nit egg out of your hair. Plain and simple. Just combing through your own hair with the special metal lice comb probably won't be enough to get them all either. Although the comb will work to get the bigger, live lice and many of the eggs, it's not a reliable method to get every one. I wound up having to go strand by strand through my kids' hair every day for about 10 days, picking out the eggs with my bare hands. It was the only thing that worked.

Also, following a rigid cleaning routine is pertinent. You must vacuum your car, furniture, carpeting, etc., and wash all your clothing and linens and towels EVERY DAY to keep from reinfesting yourself with the lice and hatching eggs that are probably laying around your home.

Oh, to say it's exhausting is an understatement. That's why everybody dreads lice so much. The time we had lice was the single worst two weeks of my life. I don't know what I would have done if I got them myself b/c I didn't really have anybody who would have been able to pick through my head.
