Lice or Dandruff?

Hi there, my head gets a little itchy sometimes, especially at the back. Its about 2-3cm long. When i comb through it with a proper lice comb, i find litte white specs. I've read up on lice but when i comb i cant find any adult lice with their description, only little white specs...why? Im hoping it could just be dandruff which can be helped with a shampoo? their are no flakes on my clothes or anything though... HELP!

Have someone check your scalp/hair. If the little white specks blow off, or flick off, it is dandruff.

If the little white specs have to be pulled off the hair, or will not blow off, it may be lice. The lice egg (net) attaches to the hair and does not come off easily.

Also, to make you feel better, go ahead and treat your hair with a lice shampoo.

if u bought a lice comb, then u will see little teardrop shaped eggs and if u use ther back of ur nail to pop them then it's lice! wash your hair with some anti-dandruff shampoo. If it's flaky don't worry about it. look up the images from google or yahoo to see lice eggs....

lice eggs u can see with your eyes

I would suggest (I'm a medical microbiologist who specializes in parasitology) that you visit your doctor or clinic and ask your physician to take some hair clippings and send them to a parasitology lab for proper determination. Lice lay their eggs (nits) on the hair shaft by 'cementing' them to the hair itself. These nits are what can be removed using a lice comb. But it is best to have your hair examined under a stereoscopic microscope by a trained prefessional as they can identify even just the remains of the cement even if no nits or adult lice are present. Make sure the Doctor cuts hair samples within about an inch of the scalp. Anything further out than that may be more indicative of a past infection. In the absence of adult lice, I think you more than likely have dandruff or something along that line, but get it checked.

Best of luck to you.

Use head and shoulder............
