Dandruff or Lice?

Yesterday my sis found out she had head lice when she was taking a shower, and thought her hair had been itchy for a week. I am not entirely sure if I have it either. I already had someone look through my hair, and that these little white specks came out not exactly easily, but not hard at all. My sister had about 5 adult lice in her hair, and it is very difficult for here to pull out the eggs (nits). The only thing I can think of is that we stack all of our sheets and pillows in a hall closet, and the lice might be able to travel that way. Is it possible that I got lice from her, or could it be dandruff because I have no adult lice and it was not difficult to pull out?

Thanks,
-Skycf7

She only noticed it two days ago (it is Feb 17 now), and has worn a towel over her head every night with mayo and other home remedies, and we also washed all of the bedding last night.

Head lice is very hard to get rid of, and so are the nits, even though the nits are dead, they will stay in your hair and eventaually over time fall out. Soaking with conditioner and using a small nit comb will help remove them. Head lice are small parasitic insects adapted to living mainly on the scalp and neck hairs of people. Their six legged head lice are evolved to grasp the hair shafts and provide a Long host with people. They may also remain on bedding or furniture for a brief period. Neither able to fly or jump, lice are also unlikely to wander far from their preferred habitat. Lice and their eggs are unable to burrow into the scalp. Chemical treatments directed against lice are pediculicides.
Head lice derive nutrient by blood-feeding once or more often each day, and cannot survive for more than a day or so at room temperature without ready access to a person's blood. A nymphal louse hatches from its egg after about 8 days of development, and begins to feed, grow and develop until it attains the adult stage about 9-12 days after hatching. A female louse may deposit more than 100 eggs at a rate of about six eggs each day. Only those eggs deposited by inseminated female lice will hatch. Generally, an infested person has fewer than a dozen active lice on the scalp at any time, but may have hundreds of viable, dead and hatched eggs. With adequate magnification, the developing nymph can be seen within the egg; hatched eggs are nearly transparent. Check the nape of the neck and also around the ears, that's where the lice likes to be, because it's warmer in those areas. If you see any red tiny marks on either than most likely you have head lice.

Good Luck

Treat yourself with lice shampoo ASAP.

That might just be dandruff. But look for some lice shampoo just incase.

I remember it was a huge ordeal when I was a child in school. Find the de-lousing shampoo from the drug store and follow the directions carefully. Wash everything! Sheets, blankets, pillows, all your clothes, and be careful not to cross contaminate. And work on removing the nits before they hatch, between the shampooings.

If your pillows were together in the closet, I am sure you have lice too. Go a head and treat your hair and Wash all bedding.

well head lice is an itchy problem thinking of them make me itch & i dont have any you sure need to get some rid or a generic may work .i had 5 kids you both need treating after you rinse your hair put conditioner in your hair tak small end of comb run it through your hair conditioner will help loosen nitseveral times good luck

My sister and I both find that head and shoulders shampoo and Grampa's Tar shampoo works very well. I have to warn you though, the tar one litterally smells like tar, although it works fabulous. I recomend Head and Shoulders if you dont want to smell like a newly paved street. You can find Head and Shoulders almost everywhere and if you have a co-op, they probaly have Grandpa's Tar.
