Lice... do we have it?

Scratching on the top of the forehead, top of the neck, and above our ears, but we can't see the nits, does my family have lice? We have been checked by people who had expierience with lice before, but we cannot see the lice or nits, and it looks like dandruff and Hairspray leftovers, do we have lice and how can we get rid of it?

Hmm... not sure it's lice yet...
we are now scratching our head to the point where it is dry and bumps are growing... maybe dry skin?

it sounds like lice... you have named all the usual places they group together - top of neck, around ears, ect... the one main thing is usually if you have them that bad, you can find them pretty easy by lifting the back of the hair up and they would be crawling around... (ick) if you arent seeing anything though (get a kiddo with long hair and lift up the back of the hair and look very close about an inch from the bottom hairline and keep looking - if it looks like dandruff or hairspray buildup - it shouldnt be moving. If its moving - its lice.

if not - you might have an allergy - although the whole family having the same allergy is pretty rare, although not impossible. might try switching shampoos to something with no perfumes or colors in them...

after that - if you dont have any bugs crawling around, you havent switched shampoos/or switched shampoos and nothing changed, red bumps that can even turn into pimple like things, are a sign of seborrhiec dermatitis (sp) ... contrary to popular understanding, seborrheic dermatitis is not dandruff

people always thought i had lice when i was growing up... i had seborrheic dermatitis that was not treated... if you have that - Nizoral shampoo (Rx or Over the counter) help alot...

it could very well be the shampoo and conditioner that you are using. highly unlikely tho if all of you are scratching.
i had lice once- caught it off my son. i dipped my hair in kerosene (not my son). that got rid off em (had really shiny hair after that too). i used a strong potent bottle of lice eliminator from the pharmacy, over the counter stuff.
i would make sure everyone does their hair, you may not see the lice- but they hide in their pretty good.

I dont think you have lice it could just be dandruff iching really bad ...or not rincing out the hairspray, shampoo, gel, mousse,or whatever you else you have in your head if you do have lice they look like little spiders when they get bigger and sometimes youll see them in the shaft of your hair,BUY RID , use the bottle oncce and then use the comb after that buy the egg remove and remove the eggs.repeat the procedure in 15 days ....make sure you wash your sheets ,vaccum your carpet, and vaccum your sofa

From what you are saying, it could be psoriasis, see link below to determine if this is what you see on your head.
