HELP!!!!! I'm sick of lice!!?

My family has had lice since I was in prep and have had it ever since!!!!
I am sick and tired of having my hair combed every week for 10 years!!!!
This has been an ongoing problem and I have a big family of 7 and my mum is slowly giving up the fight for lice and she doesn't know what to do!! She has tried the chemicals but they dont work for long enough I mean that they get rid of lice but as soon as someone is lice free they get it again from someone else in the family because we are such a big family!! If someone gets lice the whole family gets lice its like a chain reaction!!! AND I'M SICK OF IT!!! Please does anyone have any ideas of a way my mum can easily and quickly get rid of everyone's lice (in my family) and please give me advise that through experience REALLY works!! I dont want to end up being 21 and still having lice!! It is something disgusting that no one should have to go through for 10 years stright!!SO PLEASE HELP!!

If your Mother has let this go on for 7 years, you should call Child Welfare services in your state and turn her in. They will make her clean up.

That is disgusting.

Shave your head and tell your friends you are getting chemo therapy. The was everything and throw out what you can't clean.

Then people won't call you "Cootie Girl" anymore.

The truth is the only way to get rid of it once and for all is to treat the "whole" family at once....yes you have to treat everyone at the same time and wash all the bedding in the house that same day. You have to wash all the bedding to kill the eggs in the sheets or blankets. That is the only true way to get rid of it completely.

I am a firm believe in Raid. I know it is harsh but probably won't do any more damage than what you have been using. Spray it everywhere. Put linens in a garbage bag, spray Raid in there, then wash. Spray mattresses, sofas, pillows, etc. Spray some on a comb and run it through your hair. Don't spray it on your head though. Naturally you would use common sense and try not to breathe it or get it on skin. Don't use around little children either. Put conditioner on your hair and let someone comb it through with fine comb to get the nits out.

i think all of you have to shave there heads.and i would say your mom should clean out the whole house with some chemical stuff cause the lice can live in carpets, furniture, bedding etc.this is why you get them over and over again.or go and see a doctor he might help you with stronger chemicals then the ones you get "over the counter"

Has your mom tried to contact the school someone that has it is not getting rid of it. Check out this website

i can relate, so please, at least TRY this: baby oil. work it through your hair, right down to the scalp. then, comb your hair with a fine toothed comb. that should take care of the lice. to kill any eggs they might have laid, use Nix lice shampoo after the baby oil treatment.

My daughter was having the same problem with her girls. And she simply dyed their hair. ANd it got rid of all of it. The chemicals in the dye solution is strong enough to even kill the eggs. But make sure you all do it at the same time. ANd wash the bedding in bleach. But make sure you all do it the same day or it won't work. You'll just keep spreading it back and forth again. So try that and see what happens. I know the guys are going to put up a fight but ask them if they want to cure the problem or be itchy all the time and have bugs for the rest of their lives. They might see your point. Good Luck!!!

EVERY SINGLE PERSON HAS TO BE TREATED AT THE SAME TIME! Also, every piece of linen (sheets, pillow cases, towels, etc) all need to be treated as well - preferably with bleach or something. It is no use doing one person at a time. That does not work.

Here is my partners answer

being a mum of five and was a step of mum of two as well I had a longgggg battle with head lice and like your mum got to the point I was wanting to just give up but finally and quite by accident I discovered that the flea bombs that you buy and release in your home to treat flea infestations are very effective at killing the head lice too....the little critters and their eggs....

so as you have a large family I would suggest that everyone in the family gets together on one day and everyone washes their hair with KP 24 the ONLY chemical treatment that does seem to work.....then if everyone helps one another comb all the eggs and lice out of everyone elses hair....

and.... all bed are stripped and including blankets and all soft toys removed from rooms.... everything that is made of fabric needs to be removed and washed in hot soapy water and hung out in the sunshine.....

vacuum all carpets..... then replace the vacuum cleaner bag with a new one....

wash all curtains...

soft toys that may be destroyed by washing in hot soapy water need to be sealed in an airtight plastic bag for several weeks...

Oh puhhhlease dont leave this up to mum it is a huge job and everyone needs to chip in...

release flea bombs in every room and then all go out to dinner.....

when you come back vacuum and air all rooms thoroughly....

from then on if everyone uses Orange Medic lice treatment it will deter the little critters from infesting you again....

Orange Medic is a natural product and is not terribly good at treating infestations but it will deter in the future....

an alternative to that is either a little euxcalyptus oil or tea tree oil in the rinse water when you wash your hair...

this will work but needs everyone to work together and chip in and help mum!!!

edited to add... IGNORE the people who are making rude comments and it is obvious that since you say you are being treated for this every week your mum is a good mum who has been doing her best with a really persistant and difficult job....

cheers to you for asking and to your mum too!!!

I feel for you I don't have a big family but we had a continual problem. What I did to get rid of the little buggers is as follows:

Vaccuum everything that you can including mattresses. I also used the spray to get rid of the things and a good can of lysol to get rid of the smell it leaves behind. Make sure everyone has their own hair brush and try putting them in baggies so they don't touch. Don't share any hair stuff at all. Get rid of stuffed animals you can live without and those you can't tie up in a garbage bag for a minimum of 2 weeks then wash them and dry in the dryer. I have found that the chemicals aren't doing anything because this strain of lice is building up a resistance to them. Try a homeopathic one instead. I found one in the drug store that smells like licorice but it does work. Also I bought a comb called a robi comb, you put a battery in it and it electrocutes the things. Lastly to smother them you can use olive oil and a shower cap, rub the oil in your hair and cover with a shower cap for 24hrs. If this doesn't work then my last advise to you would be to try vaseline instead of olive oil, it works but it is really difficult to remove from your hair, I finally got it out with flour, yep flour, sprinkle it on and comb thru it combing will take several times to remove everything but it does work. Lastly if at all possible clean the carpets in your house, steam cleaning works best. I would also recommend making your own shampoo which includes olive oil, the little buggers don't like the stuff. Here's the recipe:

Home Made Shampoo

Egg & Lemon Clarifying Shampoo

In a blender, combine 1-ounce olive oil, 1 egg, 1 tablespoon lemon juice, and 陆 -teaspoon apple cider vinegar. Use as regular shampoo. Always place leftovers in a labeled glass container and refrigerate. Use within 4 days.

Hope this helps.
