How does someone get lice in their pubic hairs?

My ex-wife got lice in her pubic hair. She believed she got the lice from having used a public toilet in an area where a lot of homeless people hung out during the day. She is a nurse, so I believed her. Now, my partner tells me that lice in your pubic hair is only transmitted sexually, and my ex-wife was lying to me; i.e., my partner is convinced my ex-wife had an affair, and got the lice that way. Does anyone know if you can get lice from using a public toilet?

By the way, "crabs" is the slang word for pubic lice. So can you get crabs from public toilets? Or is it only sexually transmitted?

Pubic lice (often called "crabs" because of their crab-like appearance under a microscope) are six-legged creatures that most commonly infest hair in the pubic area, although they also can infest other body hair. In most cases, pubic lice are transmitted sexually from the pubic hair of one person to another. But lice can be contracted in other ways, too 鈥?from infested clothing, towels, and bedding.

Pubic lice can live 1 to 2 days away from a human body. But contrary to what some people may think, they're rarely transmitted from furniture or toilet seats because the lice that fall from the body are usually injured or dying. Unlike fleas, lice can't jump from person to person. And they can't be contracted from animals.

This is from the CDC so this is accurate.

How can you get pubic lice?
Pubic lice are usually spread through sexual contact. Rarely, infestation can be spread through contact with an infested person's bed linens, towels, or clothes. A common misunderstanding is that infestation can be spread by sitting on a toilet seat. This isn't likely, since lice cannot live long away from a warm human body. Also, lice do not have feet designed to walk or hold onto smooth surfaces such as toilet seats.
Infection in a young child or teenager may indicate sexual activity or sexual abuse.

Where are pubic lice found?
Pubic lice are generally found in the genital area on pubic hair; but may occasionally be found on other coarse body hair, such as hair on the legs, armpits, mustache, beard, eyebrows, or eyelashes. Infestations of young children are usually on the eyebrows or eyelashes. Lice found on the head are not pubic lice; they are head lice.
Animals do not get or spread pubic lice.

no she is not lying, pubic lice, or crabs are very contagious, my uncle had it one time and gave it to my grandparents!! By sitting on there bed in his undies talk about embarrassing! yes from a toilet seat is a way to get it!
being a nurse she very well could have got it from work

to answer your question go to this link i have here. its a www.webmd.com .. i went there and go the info and its all right there about it.. you can get it without having sex with someone if its gotten transmitted from clothing even.. so read that below and it should answer your questions. good luck

you can get lice in your pubic hair if another person who has lice in his head hair does oral sex with you. when this person goes down to reach your pubic region, meeting of your pubic hair & his head hair takes place. this might be the cause.

your wife or yourself has had lousy sex somewhere

She could have, but that means she sat directly on the public toilet and as a nurse should know better. So she's cheating.

I am a nurse and pubic lice CAN very well be spread through a public toilet.

Yes you can get crabs from a public toilet but it's kinda rare.
