To kill head lice,can I smother the lice & kill newly hatched eggs w/oil nightly for 2-3 wks? w/o nit picking?

Hey everyone. Please help! I'm battling head lice and don't want to tell anyone. Nothing has seemed to work so far, but now I think I have a a plan to rid them, without nit picking. It might be costly, but I think it will work and want opinions! I've researched the life cycle of the louse. Since they can't survive off the head for more than 3 days, I can apply vegetable oil mixed w/ tea tree oil, cover my head nightly for 5 days just to be safe. Since the nits hatch within 7-10 days, I can reapply the oil mix about 3 days later and do that nightly for about a week to be on the safe side. It takes a newly hatched louse to become an "egg-laying" adult about 7-13 days, sooo if I smother the new lice before they lay eggs, the reinfestation should stop. I can cover my hair longer than a week if necessary, hopefully that won't damage my hair. I'm just so desperate for a solution. Will this idea work??

.....gosh, them annoying bastards....was I mad years ago when our girls brought those home from school/friends house or whereever. We spent a fortune on those stupid "RID" treatments, all they do is making sure that you get rid of your cash, not of your lice.
After many strikes against these son-offa-bi...es, but our girls and even us and other family members getting them over and over, I declared my own war on them.
I mixed Apple Cidar Vinegar with Rubbing Alcohol, soaked our hair over night in this solution, and YES, it killed them all, including their nasty breed, nits. Even better, it is so strong that it losens the nits in your hair, so simply taking a shower with a good hair wash gets you completely free of lice and nits, no need to comb anything out in a nerve-wrecking proceedure.
To make sure there won't be any of these parasites making it alive at our house, I used that same solution in a spray bottle EVERYWHERE where we were hanging out......guess what, never, ever had them terrible blood suckers again!
This also eliminates that time-consumig "wash-everything-now" rule, since the solution obviously kills them bastards on contact. This will give you some time to breathe and you can wash your stuff little by little at a time. I know how annoying and discouraging it is that you not only have to fight them suckers on yourself, but also at your immediate surroundings.
I do not agree with that wash-rule anyways, since it will not make a whole lot of sense, if you do all that tremendous work just to discover that you still have lice. Than you'll end up doing it OVER AGAIN.
First of all, get the lice off the people, than wash things. And using my solution you can do that slowly.

There are products you can buy at the store to treat headlice, or your doctor can treat it. It is important to clean your house thoroughly, or you probably won't ever get rid of them. You need to wash all your bed linens and clothing in very hot water, dry clean anything you can't wash [stuffed animals, etc] vacuum furniture and car, throw away all of your hairbrushes and hair care items.

I don't see why you don't go to a doctor or get an over-the-counter product from the store. Everyone gets head lice sometime in their life. It isn't something to be embarrassed of.

I have personally had lice twice in elementary school (small epidemic lol) i found the easiest way to remove the lice was to have someone slowely go through your head removing the eggs with finger nails and even plucking out some hairs here and there. Louse medication, shampoo wise works wonders to kills the hatched lice, leave it on for a little longer than it says though.. I wouldn reccomend telling people you work closely with, and even taking off from school/work till you get this worked out. It is highly contagious and is not a light situation to just not tell anyone about.


WASH EVERYTHING IN YOUR HOUSE, BAG IT ALL IN GARBAGE BAGS AND WASH WASH WASH.

At the 99 cent store they have this chalk you can buy, it's used to kill roaches and ants around the home. well get some of that and crumble it into little pieces and rub all over your scalp dry. it's going to be dry and chalky during the application but believe it works and not only on the live ones but the eggs too. you only need one application. shampoo and condition after like normal and your done. let me know k. good luck.

my daughter had consistant headlice for a long period. fact is if you don't remove the eggs you will never get rid of the lice.

I have had head lice myelf many times! you can go to pretty much any pharmacy and buy RID treatments. it is a shampoo that kills the lice. you can also buy lice kits. it comes with a nit comb, bedding spray, and shampoo. First you need to wash your hair and scrub the shampoo into your scalp. after you have washed your hair with the medicated shampoo you can take the nit comb while your hair is still wet and run it through your hair and it takes the nits off of your hair folicle! after your hair drys check for any lice(bugs). remove any lice with tweezers, like a tick except much smaller, and put it in hot water.after a week give your self another treatment with the shampoo just to be safe. Any sheets or bedding wash in hot water and then put it in the dryer with as high temperature you can. any furniture spray with the bedding spray to kill any eggs or lice that may be living in the piece of furniture. any stuffed animals or stuff that cannot be washed put them in trash bags and suck all the air out of the bag. then store them in a garage or attic for 2 weeks. this should sufficate any lice or eggs on the materials! if this doesnt work for you just see your doctor about it! its a very common thing in the united states and around the world. so dont sweta the small stuff! let me know how everything turns out!

The store shampoos never worked for me--they'd kill the adults, but the eggs would be fine. I spray apple cider vinegar into my hair until it's saturated, then let it sit for a half an hour, making sure it doesn't dry out. Then I wash my hair. This kills the adult lice, but it also unsticks the eggs, so they'll comb right out. Do this for two or three days, and wash all your bedding and vacuum everything, and the lice should go away. Even in the worst of cases, this only takes a week!
