Niece has head lice...still coming to Thanksgiving weekend...Problem? |
My sister just called me and told me that she just discovered lice in her 4 year old daughters head. She is treating her today and plans to comb through every inch of her head to get rid of every nit she can find. However, my sister and her family are still planning on coming to my gramma's house for thanksgiving weekend. We all travel in from out of state and stay in very close quarters for three days. I am VERY concerned that someone else is going to contract lice from contact with my niece. I really want them to be able to come, but is it realistic to expect that she won't pass the lice on to someone else, even with the treatment? It could be possible, if she also didnt clean the bedding, toys, carpets etc because your niece or someone else from their house could get reinfected. Plus a lot of treatments require follow up 10 days later. I know my niece got it and went to the dr to get a note to go back to school and the doctor said 3 days is usually good but that the nits (eggs) can stay for weeks if you dont' kill them all. That is why they suggest a 2nd treatment 10 days later. 4 days is plenty of time to get rid of the little boogers. chill out, enjoy the holiday with your family. Not A Good Idea. If she was treat correctly there should be no problem. Most kids can go back to school the next day. If your sister has treated them, should be fine. If you are very concerned, maybe get another bottle of lice treatment to apply when she gets there. They will be gone before you see her. Enjoy your family. Those little bug will be gone in 2 to 4 days. If she is properly treated with Elimite or similar there should be no concern. it will be fine, just don't use the same comb brush or hat or pillow Hopefully, if she can't get rid of them, she won't come. That would be the right thing to do. Yes, it's sucks, but if everyone gets lice....OMG. I'd have to beat your sister. She has enough time, but she really needs to go only get rid of them in her daughters head, she needs to disinfect all the bedding in the house. Lysol makes a disinfectant liquid you can use in the wash. Occasionally, a second treatment can be necessary if the first treatment wasn't properly done. But usually a single treatment is sufficient. Those lice treatments are some pretty nasty insecticides. Be VERY concerned because your sister cannot just COMB the lice out. It can take up to 7 days for lice to be killed off and this is only if the parent(s) properly use the medication accordingly. Many doctors also recommend a repeat visit after 10 days to make sure all the lice is gone. What does this tell you? I think I'd skip that little family reunion. Someone, without a doubt, is going to get lice. All she has to do is buy a bottle of the cream, put it on her head for 10 minutes. Wash it off in the shower, and repeat once. The lice and eggs will die and they'll all fall out like dandruff in the following hours. NO PROBLEMS! I don't think I would worry too much after that many days. Just don't let them share combs, pillows, hats, coats, etc. There were several cases at our school a couple months ago and several parents had read something online about a mixture of shampoo to try. Mix together Suave Tropical Coconut Shampoo, Suave Lavender Lilac Shampoo and just a little Johnson's Soothing Vapor Baby Bath to make the shampoo. Use the same scents as above in the conditioners and mix together. Don't put the baby bath in the conditioner mix. Supposedly lice do not like these scents. I have no idea if this really works to keep them away, but of the families who used this concoction, none have had problems (so far)! Ask her what treatment she is using? The treatment should be a liquid that is applied all over the body (anywhere there is hair). Also, the clothes and bedding should be washed in hot water to kill any eggs or live lice. Lice can live up to twelve months without feeding. Duke: well the best solution is to tell your sister please wash her The treatment could help, but i dont think it will work so fast in 1 or 2 days it could but.........not likely........ My sister had lice a while ago and what we did was put rubbing alcohol on her head and soaked it throughly. if you dont think the shampoo will work and her head is still itchy i would suggest trying another solution. |
