Effective Lice Treatments....?

Since the beginning of the school year we have battled with head lice. I have 4 girls ranging in age from 16 to 23 months. This last episode was the worst. My oldest daughter never gets it...I think this is mostly in part to her using a blow dryer and straightener on her hair everyday but my two middle daughters get it frequently. Last year (meaning school year) we had this problem too.
I would always run to the drug store and do the Nix or Rid, wash everything in hot water, and spray everything with the room treatment. Usually follow all that up with 4 or 5 hours of picking nits out of the girls hair.
This last time my youngest three daughters had it and I did as well. The first treatment I used Nix. Even on the baby. We all had live bugs and I treated everyone in the house. Treated the house as well...as I was researching I found something called LICEX and ordered that for the re-treatment. I've used that on everyone as well but two of my girls (the two youngest) have lice again!

coat the hair in baby oil to suffocate them, then wash with dish soap. use coconut shampoo and conditioner for everyday use.

Who has it at school? THAT is the problem! They are catching it from someone at school. Are they sharing anything with anyone?
Unfortunately as long as the problem is at school you will just have to keep doing this.

Mayonaise in the hair for 30 minutes to an hour and then a lice comb. leaves hair greasy, but hair will no longer be greasy after a few washes.

Hmmmmm......most every kid has the lice problem some time during their school days. It appears that you have went way beyond the "call of duty" in getting rid of these "bugs".

The problem is that other kids, at school, also have them and either they aren't being treated or else your daughters get them from them, then they get treated. By that time YOUR daughters have gotten a full load and pass them back and this cycle goes on and on.

Here is my solution. Most schools have "school nurses". The nurse needs to check ALL the kids in the classes that your kids are in and then the ones that have lice should be treated all at the same time. This will rid the whole class of the lice. Then the nurse should have follow up checks about once a week. You HAVE to get the school involved in order to stop the "back and forth" passing of the lice.

That is what the schools here do. It is a serious problem and most schools treat it as such.

Have you had a talk with the school nurse or the principal's office? IMO, that's bs if they are catching it that often because of some lazy parents that aren't taking care of their kid's heads. They will keep catching it until the other kids at school no longer have it. They don't have to share anything to catch them either. They can put their hands on a desk where a lice egg may be and then touch their hair, coats touching one another on a hook, and believe it or not lice can jump!

Well unfortunately you have to go through the same routine again.

This time, I recommend that you try Kwellada, it is very good. Do the treatment on their hair, but you can also *cut their hair* so your picking is easier from scalp to ends of each hair. This ensures that you have better access to bugs and eggs. When you are using the lice comb to get the bugs out, make sure you are also getting the eggs out as well. It's a good idea to plug and fill your sink with scalding hot water, each time you comb through the hair, wash the comb in the hot water and when you are finished you will see the results. When you are finished you unplug the sink and it goes down the drain! If you don't, you know they will end up hatching and the cycle starts again.

After that check their ears, lice live in ears too, did you know? Cut their nails. Sterilize their brushes, combs and hair pins/accessories. After that, make sure you throw all the bed sheets and pillows sheets and as many shirts and tops as you feel necessary and wash in a hot cycle and be sure to throw them in the dryer too. While those are being washed, vacuum ALL your carpeting thoroughly and couch upholstery.

Hopefully, this time around you are getting rid of all of the eggs.

I was told to put a tablespoon of white vinegar in every ones shampoo and it will keep them away. I got a note from my son's class saying that someone had had it, make sure to keep checking and I thought about the vinegar, but didn't do it and sure enough....The school nurse said she uses some kind of oil to smoother them and then picks out the eggs. I wondered how it could happen because they don't jump like flees. Then we walked up to the school and one boy said they were doing something in their class room, next thing I know there are four boys all trying to look thought a 4 inch wide window, head to head. Then some of the girls ran up and hugged my daughter....I try to tell them not to do these things, but they even hang their back packs together....I don't know, but good luck!
