I have leukemia?

im 15. and i have just been diagnosed with leukemia. what should i do?

Whatever your doc tells you to do.

And don't give up. Leukemia is very treatable these days.

Can you get a marrow transplant? If so you should post your race blood type etc. here if you do not find a match. Also eating healthy and taking a daily multivitamin would be a great thing to do ! Your body needs all the help it can get to be healthy right now, good luck to you! Oh and be positive also, I have a friend who has a fifteen year old daughter who was diagnosed at thirteen did all her chemo and is now doing wonderful, hope is not lost to you , many people make full recovery and go into lifelong remission.

never loose faith no matter what. theres a similar case like this in the Philippines but some how she manage to recover. but it takes lots of patience and money aswell because it requires a blood marrow transplant. and if i'm not mistakin' i think they brought her to the US for the operation.

Dye your hair a crazy color! Or get the haircut you have always dreamed about, but have never been brave enough to get! I don't mean to sound super peppy but the best thing to do is try to stay positive. It's going to be a rough road, but this isn't the end of the road. I used to work with kids that have leukemia and a girl about your age once told me something I'll never forget. She said "God gives everyone obstacles. He gave me leukemia because He knows I can handle it."

My dear, what a scary thing!! You have all my sympathy and prayers as you adjust to this situation.

Since you ask, here is what you should do:
1. Get all the information you can from your doctor. (Pay very little attention to us random people on the internet.) Find out what kind of leukemia you have. What the recommended treatment is. What the alternative treatments are. What the drugs are that they will use. How long the treatment will last. What to expect during treatment. What the side effects are. Etc., etc., etc.

2. Go ahead and be worried and scared. Don't let anybody try to jolly you out of the doldrums.

3. Look at the positive side of things, don't get depressed, think positively

4. Try to find some kind of sane balance between #2 and #3. LOL! It is not easy, because there will be some discouraging times, and you need to be able to grieve and feel sorry for yourself sometimes. But you also need to look on the bright side sometimes!

5. Get in touch with other young people who have been through this. There is not a grown up on the planet who can really tell you what its like.

6. Remember this: ALL is about 80% cureable right off the bat. (That's my best guess about what you have, but I could be wrong) And it is quite unlikely that your doctor would recommend a bone marrow transplant at this point! It is not the front-line therapy for most leukemias.

Best of luck to you!

I too have had leukemia but now I am in remission. I was lucky that I had some of the best doctors in the State of Tennesee and are some of the top researchers. What type of leukemia do you have? I have the apl form of aml. There are numerous types of leukemia. And where do you live? MD Anderson in Houston is the best place to go but I went to Vanderbilt Hospital in Nashville.
