How true that leukemia has no cure?

Its been said that leukemia has no cure at all. There may be medications but only to cease the pain and helps make life of the patient longer.

Well, I've been in remission for 3 years, so let's hope that's not true.

Bone marrow transplantation can cure several types of leukemias.

There are about 8 different kinds of leukemia and it depends on the type, how advanced it is and other things. If it was advanced when it was diagnosed it could be possible it is too late to treat.

There is no such thing as a cure for any disease. If you find just one and its proven, let me know.

The body is a cell making machine and if the immune system fails in its communication due to toxins and deficiencies, then one affect are cancer cells that are no longer gobbled up by the immune system. In affect, the immune cells leave the cancer alone to proliferate unchecked only to be diagnosed for cancer treatment.

Prevention and not waiting until your a last resort to do something about building your immune system back up is a very wise decision and a responsible one.

I wish there was a cure then I could of saved my mother back in 2002 when she was diagnosed with acute myloid leukemia. Not everything is based on what you eat. The cancer my mom had was chromosome linked meaning it would keep coming back regardless of chemo or anything else. If you want to know more about leukemia ask me privately and not on a message board and I will talk to you gladly about it ok?

childhood leukaemias particularly the one aclled acute lymphoblastic leukaemia is curable with combination chemo.
in aduld types, the prognosis is guarded and the 5 year survival is low.but it isnt absolute.there are cases which has been in remission for several years and the disease hasnt come back.

this research group is trying to find a cure for all kinds of diseases http://boinc.bakerlab.org/rosetta/

not true tere are cures

depends on what type it is, i had hodgkins disease when i was 17 and im now 22 and have recovered, i had chemo for several months and am fighting fit! my granda had non-hodgkins lymphoma he got tablets but that specific type is non cureable and he died 1 year after :-(!

Cure is possible for ANY leukemia except possibly CLL (and there is a little debate about that), though they can be hard to come by (might take aggressive therapy such as allogeneic stem cell transplant). Unfortunately it is true that most people are not cured of leukemia. Most though, not ALL! No reason to be completely nihilistic here, but obviously much work to be done. Remember, few decades ago, nearly all children died of ALL; now majority are cured. One decade ago, average survival for CML was ~ 3 yrs or so; I have patients now out 7 yrs or more with no evidence of disease detectable by very sophistocated techniques, this being due to new medications that have revolutionized CML care.

Bottom line: SOME are cured, MOST are not; MUCH work yet to be done. It is not hopeless.

God bless, best wishes

The fact is, aggressive treatment puts many types of leukemia in remission; and while no treatment is flawless, each new case provides the opportunity to make refinements and improve therapy.

In 1960, the 5-year survival rate for all types of leukemia was about 14%. It has now increased to about 50%.

Progress comes with time, patience and a little hope...
Cures are out there and we will find them.
