it simply a problem with the function of the bone marrow which is responsible for producing white and red blood cells and platelets.
they might increase or drop to very low levels.
the types are various and different,and the outcome is also different.
the treatment is usually chemotherapy.

I won't go into the types the other post explained those well. The managment of leukemia involves stopping the proliferation of the cancerous cell and supporting the body. Nursing responsibilities include, assessment, patient and family suppport, assisting with medical procedures, medication administration, education, patient care. A few NANDA diagnoses: (just off the top of my head)
altered coping, altered family coping, pain, anxiety, fear, grieving, altered health mainenance, high risk for infection, knowledge defecid, altered nutrition, personal identity disturbance, self care deficit, spiritual distress, impaired social interaction etc.

The most important nursing diagnosis would be "risk for infection" good handwashing, monitoring of blood counts very important
