Leukemia and heartbreak? |
I recently have been diagnosed with leukemia and my boyfriend and i split up earlier today. We've been arguing and now it's over. I'm only 20 and i feel like my world in crashing down on me. I love my boyfriend and now he's gone; I had a very active life and now there will be so many changes due to chemo. How do i deal with this? I know you are hurting, scared, confused, and a lot of other strong emotions. But, you are so much stronger than you think you are. In a few months, you will be able to look back and think "I didn't know how I would handle things, but here I am and I handled it, damnit!" Don't worry about tomorrow, take care of yourself TODAY, and start that way each day. Also, the Serenity Prayer is very powerful - Lord grant me the knowledge to know the things I can't change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference. Spend time with friends and family. Also, be glad you know this about your boyfriend now. He is not strong enough to be your man, and you deserve the best! Best of luck to you - keep positive thoughts! always remember one thing The odds of survival in children (under 20 years of age) who develop acute lymphocytic leukemia: How long can they be expected to survive?, given the best treatment possible? (At the present time, it's largely the chemical treatment procedure that was started in 1966.) Survival has continually increased since 1960, and a comparison of the odds would look something like this: The chance of a child surviving twelve months after the diagnosis has been made was such that 40 out of 100 would have done so before 1960. From 1966 on, one could expect 80 out of 100 to live for over a year. Only 6 of 100 children would have survived to two years before 1960, and now 55 out of 100 will go that long. You LIVE! You Fight! well ive been through chemo and all the ups and downs with doctors ,, treatment ,, im still not done . first of all dont worrie about whats ahead of you wait till it comes and deal with it day by day ... You need to concentrate on your treatment, you find out who your friends are when something like this happens. I hope you have some good friends and family to stick by you during this. You should have access to social workers, they are there to help and maybe able to talk to you and your partner together. Talk to someone about any questions you may have. Work on getting/staying healthy. I know you love him, but concentrate on your body right now. If you have a religious faith, now is a good time to practice it. |
