Anyone diagnosed with Legg Calve Perthes Disease? What did your doctor do about it? |
My son is 5 years old. He was recently diagnosed with Legg Calve Perthes Disease. The doctor said no running, no jumping, no climbing. He is taking the "wait and see" approach. My son uses a walker and is in traction at night. What options did your doctor give? My nephew was diagnosed with this same problem, at about the same age. If you'd like, e-mail me at tammiejo27@yahoo.com and I can get you her e-mail address. She'd be happy to share any info with you. It's nice to talk to someone who is going or has gone through the same thing! I had it when I was 3 yrs old, I'm now 45. PS: I don't understand the traction at night. There is not weight on the hip when sleeping. He needs to be braced all day, until bed time. The key is not to damage the head of his leg bone. Femer(sp) Our 5 yr old daughter was recently diagnosed and she is on crutches, but will have to have surgery soon. They said that was the best option, as the braces aren't guaranteed to work.
