Legg Calve Perthes disease?

My granddaughter has Legg Calve Perthes disease, and I am wanting to know if anyone knows of two children in the same family having the disease. My grandson is starting to complain of his leg and hip being stiff and hurting.

My dad had an issue with his hip when he was a young boy but I don't think it was ever diagnosed as LCP, that was back in the 40's too though.

My son was diagnosed with LCP after injuring his hip while running, this was in the early 90's.

No other instances in my family that I know of.

My son was in a toe to hip cast on both legs with a spreader bar at the ankle for quite awhile. He also went through periods of having to use a traction apparatus as well as rehabilitation.

About 2 years of the above & then yearly exams to make sure he was doing ok.

According to his doctors basically what we did is get him healed up & extended the time before he will need a hip replacement by about 10 years.

They said that he could probably expect to have replacement surgery sometime in his 50's.

Hope this helps.

I had it, but no one else in my family. I'm 45 now and my hip is ok, except for stiffness. I run about 3 miles a day. It hurts sometimes, so I alternate 3 weeks on and 3 weeks off. Good Luck. Report It

I am unfamiliar with the disease and just read about it. I would certainly have your grandson checked as it is more common in boys than girls. Good luck to you all and God bless...
