Can my leg present a fracture 2 days after the injury had happened?

I got into a car accident 2 days ago, my leg has a large bruise (about the size of a dinner plate) and major swelling. This morning I attempted to go down stairs I heard a loud "pop" sound and now I am in extreme pain. Could I have had a potential fracture at the day of the accident that was unseen by my intial examination, and when hearing the sound could the fracture happen after the intial accident? The swelling is worse and the pain is very sharp. I want to insure I am not out of allinement, so I do not take up precious ER space and time. Can someone help direct me please?

Yes, it can sometimes take up to two weeks for a hairline fracture or stress fracture to show up. Alot of times when you have one of these fractures the actual break does not show up on xrays you can just start to see when your body starts putting down new bone around the break. You can see this on an xray; it looks like a white cloud around the bone, and even that is sometimes hard to see.
I would go see a doctor in a few more days and have it re-xrayed.

Go to the ER or your call your Doc and see if they have X-ray and would be willing to set it if you would have an easy to set break.

if you heard a POP and then felt immediate severe pain and are now unable to bear any weight then you need to get to the ER any way possible...
yes it is possible for an injury to not "appear" so to speak but to get worse and more noticablewith in a few hours or even a day after inital injury had occured....
if your leg wasnt broken in hte accident but you continued to bear weight afterwards until this morning then your injury could have gotten worse.

GO TO THE ER DON'T WORRY ABOUT WASTING THEIR TIME YOU NEED TO HAVE THAT CHECKED OUT AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!
