Any information on RLS or Restless Leg Syndrome?

My Docotor diagnosed me with RLS and asked me to get a whole slew of tests done, for instance... a regular CBC, T4, Test for H. Pylori (connected with GERDs) and a buch of others. It seems to me, that he (my Dr.) has a major cause for concern, should I be afraid of my health status? I have a MILD case of Obessive Compulsive Disorder... am I going to die or something, I'm so afraid! : (

A good source for information on RLS is webmd.com. I also have this issue, and find that a few things help me:

1. reduce caffiene and nicotine intake
2. glass of water right before bed
3. walking around for a few minutes before bed
4. legs warm but not hot in bed

Doctors routinely request test on patients, and you should not get concerned just because he asked for them. Blood and urine tests tell the doctor lots of things he can't see with his naked eye, like whether you have enough iron, magnesium, calcium, etc. in your diet, etc. It's the best way your doctor has of confirming what he told you in his office, and of choosing appropriate therapies to help you, not just with the RLS but also with the reflux issue.

I suggest you make sure your doctor knows you have OCD and what your usual mainfestations are of this condition, so that he can help with this, too. He may suggest counselling or even medication to assist you with this particular issue.

Remember, your doctor can help you best when he/she knows the WHOLE picture of your health, physically, emotionally, psychologically. Otherwise it's like giving him a jigsaw puzzle with pieces missing and asking him to put it together.
