Do you think I have a learning disability?

I have an essay due on Monday, a group presentation on Monday, along with a few other assignments and everytime I find myself sitting down to attempt to do my homework, I stall myself by taking a shower, eating, cleaning, doing laundry ANYTHING EXCEPT my homework. Is this a sign of ADD? I just can not concentrate no matter how hard I try. It's like my brain has been fried or something. I read and read from my textbook then I can't remember anything I just read. I mean seriously it takes me a whole weekend just to read and understand a chapter in a book. Could this be a sign that I have a learning disorder? Thanks

It's probably procrastination.

Sometimes it's ADD, or even the early stages of schizophrenia.
These conditions are very very common, and seem to be increasing.

If you can read books that you truly like, but it's only boring textbooks that you have problems with, then it's probably not a mental condition like schizo.
It could still be ADD though, but my gues is that almost anyone can have ADD from time to time. Homework and textbooks are incredibly boring, and the real world almost never forces people to memorze crap like that. So think of it as a temporary condition that millions of other students have faced for centuries. Feel lucky that you don't have to learn Greek and Latin like in the old days.

no i have that problem and i just get in truble so a good way is locking urself or punishing urself(like no tv)until u do ur hw

No.

It means simply you hate doing your homework as much as everyone else does. You're a procrastinator, and you need to teach yourself strategies in order to stop that behaviour instead of finding excuses for it. (Laziness is what it comes down to).

For me, I sit down at XX time and say to myself, OK I will go until XX time then stop. Little chunks with breaks in between gets it done.

No. You're just a procrastinator.

That the way I am too and I'm an A-B student and self learner. I also accomplish almost everything I put my mind to. What you are describing is that you dread having to those things. I myself take a while to get into the homework mood. I have to do many other things that I have in my mind first before I get to what I need to do. Is like my system can only have so many items in queue and I must empty some of the items in that list before I do the others. Also like a queue I kind of have to do those things in order.

What you need to do is a realistic schedule in your head of the things you need to do. For example If I know I have some homework due on monday but I know it may take me 2 days then a week before it I set it in my mind that I will spend saturday reading and sunday doing the actual work. That way it is already in your mind that you have to do these things and that that time is reserve for that activity. When the day comes you will be more apt to do them.

Boy does that sound familiar. You are a procrastinator like me. Break up your task into smaller sub tasks which you finish one by one. And don't try to be too perfect. Just do it.

Welcome to the suckfest I call: Procrastinator's homework life. It does suck, but I recommend you drink a lot of water and maybe do your homework WHILE watching TV! :]

Take some time and write your answers while you do your showing, eating, cleaning, etc. Pencil and paper will unlock the will power already in U! Place one at each station (TV, Bedroom, etc.).
