Why do doctors feel it's better to give me meds than to help me with my learning disorder?

I was recently told I have a short circut in my brain that doesn't process information. When I said to her 'a pill is not going to help me learn. It's not a get-smart pill.' If it were, I would've had one after every meal. When I told her it won't help smart me up, she says I'm not listening. But I repeated back every single word she just said and she answers she never said that. I've tried my college counselor and - again, I'm told I'm not trying hard enough or "Sorry, we can't help you with that." I've looked, search, hunted and asked, but they act like I'm just talking casually to them, like, "I think it's going to rain," "Hi, how are you?"

Someone please help. Why meds and not acknowledge the difficulties one has?

This doctor is talking down to you and I had one like that. Run fast and get one that you respect and has faith in you. You just need a better doctor and therapist. Find one that you feel comfortable with.

it's there easy way out. i find some doctors don't even give you the time of day, they seem like they are so busy and don't have time to properly disgnose you. they just give you a pill hoping that it will do something so they can get you in and out of their office. find another doctor, and explain what has happened before with other doctors, and let them know you are not leaving until someone proplery diagnoses you.

If they've offered, "We'll look into it and see who can help" would be your best bet, but obviously, they want their pay and not the time of day. It's tought to find someone to listen and try to help. But that doesn't mean they're not out there. But where to sought is the problem. I'm with you, girl, for making the effort. I've seen too many people with learning problems give up on their search and end up in board and cares, where everything is done for them (i.e. laundry, fixing meals, other chores and so-on). I'm sure you do your own chores, but if that's the case, they figure you're smart enough to find a caring person yourself.

They don't half listen, they just say whatever they've read in their manual and give you a band-aid, believing it'll resolve all your problems. What I see is they don't care what you say as long as they get their paycheck. What you need is some guidance and tutorial help, not a drug dealing doctor.

Hope things work out for you in what you want/need.

They're too concerned with their paychect rather than interrupting
their few hours of listening to their patients who really want to get better and, somehow, don't know wherelse to look. It's a sad reality, as you clearly know.
