Undiagnosed symptoms, if you let them alone can they turn worse later on?

I feeel i have a learning disorder. with reading and speaking. I just can't make any sense and i find it hard to deal with language alot. Always have. MOreover, for years i've had this tic where once in a while.. my head swings back abruptly like if I was punched ..I have a feelign it's something like Tourrets syndrome, except it only happens once in a while. not everyday .

I did have a head injury and comma at age 6 when i was involved in a bus crash and i think that may be where i got this Tourrette's syndrome-like thing. But they've always said i was normal.. Yet i have always had trouble with socialization and learning and thiese tics. I feel like i may have something that no doctor catched

If they don't get worse, they will definitely continue to limit your social life, and perhaps your career, and definitely your emotional well-being.

Talk to a doc, mention the accident. Perhaps, you WERE fine at the time and problems are just surfacing now. Either way, do yourself some good and see a doc....even just for reassurance.

Tell your doctor what you are experiencing, if it's that much of a bother to you. Personally, if you're happy the way you are, I don't think that seeing a doctor is worth the trouble. Of course, you can always go, see what he says and then decide not to listen to him. When it comes to mental illness (though yours may be more brain injury related than mental) doctors don't have your best interest in mind.

Don't give up. Keep insisting to your doctor that you feel something is wrong that they havent' caught. Be very insistent. If that doesn't work, seek out specialists on your own. It sounds like you need a good neurologist. Good luck.

I would get another opinion if you are worried.

I don't know where you live, but here in Australia, psychologists are qualified to diagnose and treat learning disorders. There is a lot they can do to help! Over here, neuropsychologists specialise in knowing how brain injuries affect a person, and what can be done to help.

Maybe you could check it out with your doctor first.

Who knows if they will get worse?? You'd need to know what is behind the symptoms first!

Over the next couple months, keep a log of your tics. Nothing major, just jot down when they happen. Ask your regular doctor for a referral to a Neurologist.

When you get to the Neurologist, ask him/her about Tourettes. If you have it, you were born with it. Nothing can trigger it. It is a Neurological condition that people are born with.

You need to advocate for yourself. No one else will!

There is not "one" test to see if you have TS. It is diagnosed by oral history from you (that is where your notes come in handy) and observation by the doctor. Sometimes a Neurologist will ask for additional tests (EEG,blood tests, etc) but these will only rule out other disorders. They are not used to diagnose TS.

My husband and I noticed tics in our son. When we could not figure out what they were, we took notes and observed. We also video taped him to show the doctors in case the tics were not present at the prescribed day and time of the appointment. This was a BIG help. I recommend it!

Having Tourettes is not the worst thing in the world. If you spend any amount of time in a Pediatric Neurology waiting room, you'll learn to count your blessings! Tourettes is not degenerative, and it does not impede intelligence or ability to learn. Learning is harder and takes longer for our son, but he CAN learn. Our son is smart and scores high on IQ tests, plays chess, builds complex Lego sets, is artistic, loving and bright. I would not change him for the world!

Blessings to you for a good outcome. Check my many best answers on this subject. I hope they help.
