I need advice on my daughter who i think is a lil slow? |
okay my daughter is 5 going to be 6 in july she's been in speech therepy since 3 she's gotten to be a lil better but her comphretion is horrable i know she's slow and she don't under stand alot of things i try to help her how do i or do i go to a doctor to see if she has some kind of mental disorder learning disorder how do i deal i just feel bad her older brother is 7 and he's god awful smart in 1st grade and already in 4th grade learning he's in the gifted and talented classes and might be getting bumped up a grade to third instead of second i been in denial about it for a while but now its' really been bothering me my youngest son is even catching on to what my oldest son does my lil girl is the middle and i just wish she was average atleast she has a hard time making friends since they dont understand her even the younger ones Does your school offer screening? Contact the public school and see how to get her screened. This way you can find out what is offered free by the state. You said she is in speech therapy, who referred you there? Her pediatrician? Her ped should be aware of your thoughts. Go with your gut, never let them give you the "lets watch her" approach. She is 5 and should be getting help. What does her speech therapist say? Are they concerned? The more help she has early on, the better she'll be. Be aggressive!! Talk to her primary physician or pediatrician about your thoughts and ask for an evaluation with the appropriate professional in your area. "Admnurse" has a good idea, and you can also speak to the people in the "front office" of the school she attends and see if they have someone on staff, like a licensed psychologist, who can administer various aptitude and IQ tests. I'm sure the people in the front office / principal's office or school counselor's office can help you with your worries. God Bless you. First of all, you shouldn't be in "denial" about your own child, no matter how she is. She is still a loving human being and a child that is needy and needs a mother, and advocate and A LOT OF LOVE. Second, why don't you talk to her school psychologist or a counselor and they can set up testing? Or, maybe get her tested at the local University Hospital or county mental health agency? It doesn't matter if she's slow, or deformed, or ANYTHING, she's YOUR CHILD, and don't let anyone hurt her because she has a fault, we all do. She's undergoing speech therapy... is this not supervised by an MD? I think you should go ahead and go to a doctor to make sure. About 20 years ago, I had the same problem with one of my kids and I didn't know what to do. But now, I know that I should have taken him to a therapist who could find out what is wrong and tell me what to do to help my child. My child is an adult now and I regret getting him help when he was four years old. I think that my child would have been happier and done better in school if I had gotten him help earlier. Please take your daughter to a therapist. I know you are very much happy with your son as per what you have mentioned. you have so many things to say about him. And i think you never find a good thing in your daughter. Friend your daughter have development delays.. thast all. she will make up very fast depending upon your support. there are spcialized clinics for children suffering from development delays, you should consult them, its all about exercises and game stuffs.. no medication, so dont be worried, she will make up. try to watch her very closer, and find what all interest her. I am telling you this because i came across the same situation with my neice. she doing doing good now at the age of 6. we came to know shes suffering from developmental delays at theage of three, and just 2 yrs she got her pace. try to find the gifts n talent in her and boost her. she will make it out in short time. Any developmental/paediatric therapist/assessor can do it. go via her gp or paediatrician. Developmental therapist is usually a psychologist or occupational therapist, depending on what they're assessing. The speech therapist may even know some in you're local area. |
