Are there any mental disorders other than hoarding disorder that can cause someone to be messy to the point? |
they get evicted? Don't say it is normal or laziness, because I learned that when someone is that bad that it's interfering with their life, it is beyond that scope. Good points. I also wonder if with depression, part of it is that everything is so overwhelming and difficult, that if cleaning would be the last thing on their mind. I know people with schizpphrenia who live in complete mess. Lack of motivation can be a symptom so even basic things like cleaning or just picking up after yourself become difficult. I don't think there is a specific description, but it is common in a lot of anxiety disorders. Depression and anxiety can cause one to feel out of control and hoarding and being a total slob can be the release. My in-laws are a perfect example. They have so much stuff it's scary. Neither one will throw anything away, and they both blame the other for "letting it get this bad." i think depression and anxiety could be a cause - i suffer from depression and i find that hoarding things away is comforting sometimes. Whenever someone has an insucurity it usually show up somewhere in the home, piles in corners are a good example. When things are adding up people usually do not notice how bad ot is gettin because it has happened so slowly that it looks normal. |
