Nervous tics when embarrased?

OK so when I feel embarassed like when I think of something dumb I did or said and rememebr it later when I'm alone, I do this tic thing. Like I make a noise or say "NO" or whatever and sometimes I get the urge to hurt myself, like I visualise myself cutting myself really bad as punishment or something! but I would never do it. i used to cut myself a long time ago, don't know why maybe to release anxiety? but I NEVER EVER do it now or anything else to hurt myself. But once I was so embarassed at somerthing I did, I scratched myself really bad witrh my fingernails when I grabbed at my shoulder. i didnt intend to hurt myself, but i did!

I have nonverbal learning disorder (went to the doctor and was tested for it b/c they thought i had inattentive type ADD) is this a symptom of that? And how can I stop because it really causes me a lot of anxiety to feel like this and people will think im weird if they overhead me ever! And I think they have! Pleasde no mean answers thanks!

I would discuss this with whoever you're getting counselling from (if anyone - and I do suggest someone!) Also try looking up some non-verbal forums and websites so you can ask other people if they have this issue. From what I understand, NVLD is kind of uncommon. And DON'T be so HARD on yourself! You are human, and so is everyone else on the planet...we are imperfect! If someone else did or said something "dumb", would you still judge them as harshly as you judge yourself? Think of it that way, and good luck!

In my opinion, this sounds like a warped version of tourettes. Go talk to your doctor or a psychologist

you gotta take it easy on yourself. so you said something weird. like the other people in this wolrd are soooo important that you cant bear to stand out once in a while or make a faux pas? next time you make a faux pas or say something you think is embarassing (even though its probably no bid deal) just say to your self, "oh well, cant win 'em all" and move on.
