Lead poisoning!!!!?

I was not feeling so well today so I decided to take me temperature. It was one of thouse old thermometters, that have either mercury or lead in it, im not realy sure. ITs the one where you have to read the temperature your self, its not displayed to you. Anyways, it was hard to tell what my temperature was so I wasn't sure if it was working, I stuck it in my class of HOT tea while I was drinking it, when I pulled it our, I found out it was broken into many peices in the cup. Did I drink lead? can I get sick now? please help!!!!!

He's right it's not lead but mercury. Humans can tolerate little mercury, however if it's in you it wont go away. Fish has some mercury in it too, so if you eat fish you get mercury in yourself(generally the big fish). But if your feeling sick you should see a doctor, too much mercury can kill you.

Holy!- It couldn't be lead -.- there are no such things as lead thermometers, but if you think that it broke in your mouth, then go to the hospital, mercury poisoning is VERY bad.

Call your local poison control for the best answer to your question. And, by the way, mercury is a liquid at room temperature, but you would have to have heat lead to over 625 degrees F. to liquify it...a little too hot to handle! And it is liquid mercury which expands and contracts with heat that allows you to measure body temperature.

Also recommend that you get a digital thermometer or one of those strips that change color.
