Are parents having their children tested for Lead poisoning?

I've been wondering about this for a while. With all the recalls over toys and products made in China, is any parents testing their children for lead? If there is lead poisoning, do they plan to sue the company (like Mattel) who endorses these products? No kids should suffer serious brain damage if it can be prevented?

Our kids' pediatricians routinely did lead screening as part of well-baby and well-child care.

We live in an area with many older homes containing lead paint.

i've had my son tested. not so much because of the toy recalls though but because we live in an older house.

go for organic crafted toys like with wood etc

Not that I know of.

Our dogs got three leads - is he in Danger...

Well I wouldnt worry about it if i were you unless the kids play with mattel toys - dont worry about all of that nonsense. It could happen, but it is very unlikely.

Hope this helps!

I think that it's a lot of hype - toys years ago had considerably more lead in them than the toys we are hearing about from China right now, and those kids grew up just fine.
It's just another scare tactic from an overprotective society. I am not saying children should be unnecessarily exposed to lead, but having them tested if they are showing no symptoms is probably going a bit too far.

The lead content in these toys are nowhere near close enough to cause serious brain damage. The child would have to be eating those toys for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

There are many things out there with a lot more lead content - old paint, for example.

If they're not, they should. It's not just in the toys, think of how many foreign products you have in and around your house. Children put ANYTHING in their mouths. It was just on the news about a child who was diagnosed as autistic, and two years later, they found out he is suffering from lead poison, not autism. It's going to take years for them to undo the damage that was done. EVERYBODY NEEDS TO GET THEIR CHILDREN TESTED!!

dont test them treat them. The best hevey metal kelator (remover) is cilantro (corriander) So eat lots and entertain your kids with better things than dolls

Hello,
I am wondering what is different in todays times compared to the days of yesterday? We played with all sorts of things. we are still alive.

Are kids of today more fragile?

My dog has got a lead...

Not sure about my child though..

How can u get poisned for a lead?

Is my dog in any danger...?

To those who say it's a waste of time and that we older citizens survived lead hazards, I say Whoa.

Most of us were lucky we weren't exposed to serious degrees of lead. Research in the past few decades have reiterated and expanded on our knowledge that lead definitely adversely affects learning and IQ.

Except for old housing and the recent import of toys containing lead paint, reducing lead in the environment has been a public health success. If you look at older and more recent pediatric textbooks, you see that maxixmum acceptable blood lead levels have fallen from 60碌g/dl in the 1950's to 30碌g/dl in the 1980's to <10碌g/dl in the 21st century. According to the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey, the mean blood level has fallen from 15 in 1980 to 2.7 in 1994 to 2.2碌g/dl in 2000.
