Need to Know about Lead Poisoning?

I am scared for the 3 year old boy that i babysit. Just to be nice when I was over at their house i looked up tos that were recalled due to lead paint to make sure he didnt have any. It turns out he had like 4 toys that were recalled, and they were the toys he most commonly played with-my luck. One of the, before I looked it up, he constantly hadin his mouth, (i kept on telling him to get it out) i took it away from him, and washed his mouth out. Two days ;laster he developd this 'cold' wherehe is coughing really really badly, he still has loads, of energy, an appetite, the only different hing is this cough, oh and a runny nose. The thing is, he hs had this for over a week now. He has never had lead testing, should he go? is he at risk? could he get hurt? thanks for all your info.

Express your thoughts to the parents. I think this is a coincidence though. Lead poisoning from today's' toys would take a lot to really effect anything. Lead paint chips were a big deal...and still are in older homes because they are actual chunks of lead-based paint (which tastes sweet), therefore high concentrations, overtime, can cause IQ deficiency and other illnesses. But like I said, I think this cold is a coincidence, and these recalls are just making everyone more scared than they should be.

Voice your concern to his mother. Lead levels can easily be check by a simple blood test. I do medical coding every day and I have yet to see a positive lead level in a child, although I am sure some so do come back positive.....

Theres a chance, do his parents know? I would think they would be more concerned than you. You must be a good babysitter then.
