I had a mechanical pencil lead inside me for a month!! could i have lead poisoning?

A month ago, a 5 mm piece of a mechanical pencil lead got stuck under my nailbed and completely went inside to an extent that i dint know it was there. today.... it saw that a tip of that was peeking out automatically.. and i was able to pull it out using tweezers.... was this danergous enough to tell the doctor?? or should i just forget it??

Pencils are NOT made of lead, but graphite. I think you would need to eat about 75 pounds of graphite before you even got a headache. So, you'll live.

i dont think so

Pencil "leads" are made of graphite, not lead. Relax.

no because pencils are made out of graphite and not lead anymore.

no need to tell the doc. pencil lead is not lead it is grafite sorry dont know how to spell it

most pencil is graphite not lead. Infection should be checked. your nail may not grow right for a while. Just be careful

Forget it, you have neither lead, nor graphite poisoning. As for telling a doctor, nah, most doctors have more important things to worry about as they are usually overbooked with patients who have problems..

Pencil "lead" is made of graphite and clay, you don't have to worry about lead poisoning

the pencil lead in the newer .5 mm pencils contain a less toxic kind of lead. i thinks its nothing to worry about. You got the lead out you should be fine. Now, if your pregnant you might want to mention it at your next ob appointment.

nah, i feel that you will be fine...you might want to put some antibiotic on it just because of the *puncture* wound and threat of bacteria, neosporin will do...however, pencil *lead* is not lead, it is graphite...you still want to clean the wound though :)

The "lead" of a pencil has never been made of the element lead, though some crayons have had lead in them in the past.

Unless your finger shows signs of infection, you have nothing to worry about. (It would be swollen and very sore if infected.)

I'm pretty sure they use graphite now and not lead.

Pencil "lead" is not made of lead---it's just carbon.

You are not poisoned. You are fine.
