What causes lead poisoning? Coming in contact with or ingesting lead. Could be from lead paint or handling the metallic element. Also, years ago dentists filled teeth with an amalgam that contained lead; they don't use that anymore because the lead leeched out. um...lead LEAD consuming anything with lead in it, from paint to just lead entering the body no matter what entrance it chooses. It takes a lot of exposure over time to get lead poisoning. The reason babies got it from eating lead paint off the walls and teething rails on cribs is it went on over several months or years. The Romans drank wine from lead goblets and had lead plumbing. Only the rich had it and eventually it affected their judgment. A one time exposure like when I was a kid and they had lead BBs and we carried them in our mouths so we could spit one at a time in the gun barrel. It didn't hurt anyone I knew. We all graduated from college and most of my friends became teachers or successful business administrators. etc..The biggest hazard is the paranoia and the cost of removing it from buildings like schools. I know of a case wherer they removed the lead, but kept the carpet in the school. You know that contaminated the carpet and you can never get everything out of carpet.. |
