Allergy to latex? |
I have spina bifida and and people with SB often become allergic to latex over time. I was exposed to it a lot as a child. I know other people with spina bifida (around my general age) who were also exposed to it and are VERY allergic. How come I never became allergic and so many other people did? While it is good your immune system has not yet shown signs of an allergic reaction with latex.You are still at high risk of developing the problem.You should take steps to PREVENT becoming allergic to latex by avoiding it as much as possible.Use non-latex dish gloves,condoms,work gloves,etc.And avoid repeated exposure to foods related to latex,this way you will prevent the problem from occuring.After all an OUNCE OF PREVENTION IS WORTH A POUND OF CURE. You are just lucky - and don't carry the tendency to develope an allergy to latex. Same rational for people and poison ivy and oak - not every one has a problem with it, and some are terribly allergic to itl. you are extremely lucky. I also have sb and became allergic to it and all the foods relating to it at the age of 7. At the age of 18 I had an anaphalatic episode due to a hospital exposing me. |
